Randy Travis Suing to Prevent Release of Naked Arrest Video | RedCowHills

Randy Travis is seeking $100,000 and a judgement that all information pertaining to his arrest on August 7, 2012 not be released to the public from Public Information Act requests. That information includes the arrest transcript and the police video shot while the naked singer was taken into custody.

In January, Travis pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and received two years probation, a $2,000 fine and a 180-day suspended jail sentence. The judge agreed that the dash camera arrest video and transcript should not be released to the public.

According to the Associated Press, the Texas attorney general’s office ruled this month that the judge didn’t have the discretion to prevent the video from being released. Their ruling says the Department of Public Safety must withhold medical records and motor vehicle records. Travis has named the Texas DPS and attorney general’s office in his lawsuit.

Numerous media outlets have requested information from the arrest, including the video. Travis suffered minor cuts and bruises when he crashed his Pontiac Trans Am near Tioga, Texas, 60 miles north of Dallas. It was his second arrest of the year and the second of three altercations that would involve police in 2012. The singer has since pledged to give up drinking.
