Walle Wins World’s Ugliest Dog 2013 UGLY Dogs 2013 Faces Only Owners Love Dog Contest. PETALUMA, Calif. — A huge-headed, duck-footed mix of beagle, boxer and basset hound was the upset winner at the 25th annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest. Walle, a 4-year-old mutt from Chico, Calif., who entered at the last minute, was judged most unsightly of 30 dogs at Friday’s Northern California competition. It’s been dominated in recent years by nearly hairless Chihuahuas, Chinese cresteds, or combinations of the two.

Judges said they were especially impressed by Walle’s bizarre waddle of a walk. Walle wins $1,500 and will make several network TV appearances next week. The contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds gets worldwide attention, with media from around the world traveling to Petaluma, about 40 miles north of San Francisco. Organizers say the dogs are judged for their “natural ugliness in both pedigree and mutt classes.”

‘The World’s Ugliest Dog’ Contest declared a new winner for 2013 – a mutt mix part beagle, basset and boxer – named Walle who has a huge head, short thick stature, and duck feet. Walle beat 29 other contenders at the 25th anniversary of the ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma Friday, June 21.

Walle hails from Chico and was a late entry in the contest, arriving minutes before the closing time. In a contest that has celebrated the Chinese Crested, Walle represented a departure from the usual. The breeds in this contest included pedigree and mutt mixes of Chihauhua, Chinese Crested, Boxer, Terrier, Pugs, Poodles, and Peruvian. Walle was acquired by his owner at three months old and won the crowd with his hind leg stance which demonstrated his girth and large head as he took a biscuit from his owner.

Walle walked away with $1,500 for winning the title of ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ as well as a trophy. But fame follows as well. He will appear on Weekend Today on Sunday and the Today Show on Monday. He’ll also visit the Jimmy Kimmel Show on Wednesday.
